SD 10 Year History of Super Dollfie

“The Ten Year History of Super Dollfie: 2001”

2001 - the year in which many people began to be drawn in by the appeal of Super Dollfie.
In March, we began to sell optional parts for Super Dollfie. It was certain that the SD world was growing larger.

On the third of June, at Tokyo Big Sight, we held the “Dolls Party 5 – 2001 Spring”.
From this Dolpa on, the guidebook cover that had up until then always been adorned with 27cm dolls changed to show Super Dollfie instead. This certainly seemed like proof that the Super Dollfie world was starting to be acknowledged by everyone.
The Super Dollfie gracing this particular cover was the Standard SD Mimi, an angel that had only just alighted in this world. In the guidebook, the details that told in full of the adult-like charm that lies within her innocence seemed to dance to and fro, and another tale was spun of the history of the world of Super Dollfie.

In addition, it was from this time that we started holding the “After Event” at each of our Showroom locations, conveying the impressions and excitement of Dolpa to our fans. This was an idea born from the desire to deliver happiness to as many more of our customers as we could.

And then we took on another first challenge by holding Hometown Dolpa events. These were really “at home” events, to bring us closer to our customers. On the 9th of September we held the first Hometown Dolpa Shizuoka, and on the 24th the first Hometown Dolpa Osaka. And then without pause, on the 30th we held the first Hometown Dolpa Nagoya. And so Super Dollfie began to play out the fullness of their charm at many different locations within Japan.

Perhaps spurred on by this surge of activity, our smaller Super Dollfie made an unexpected appearance on the scene. It was the birth of MSD Myu, Magie and Sakura.

“Mini-ko”, as these tiny angels affectionately came to be known, came into the SD world and sweetly, joyously scattered a childlike purity, an innocent brightness all across it.
Surely this tiny new brightness could be seen more than anything else as a sign of the arrival of a new world?

On the 9th of December, we held “Dolls Party 6” at Tokyo Big Sight. With the advent of the Hometown Dolpa events that we had held, this came to be called the “Main Dolpa” event.
At this Dolpa, “Leona” and “Licht”, F-09 head SDs customized by Jille Washio, made their debut as our Limited SD. In addition, we announced our new Standard series SD13 girls, Kira, Sara, Nana and Megu. These Super Dollfie, just slightly more grown up, and with a more adult-like atmosphere to them, grabbed the attention of our customers.

And taking advantage of this opportunity, “Shinshiya”, “Miesya”, and “Narsha”, angels with the appearance of sweet fairies, made their debut onto the scene as a part of the Standard MSD series. This added still more world views to the concept of Super Dollfie. In both name and actuality, this fresh new breeze was beginning to blow up a storm in the doll world.

“I want to know more about Super Dollfie!”
In answer to our fans’ wishes, we opened an exclusive Super Dollfie salon, “Tenshi no Sumika – Shinjuku Alta”. And so the first Tenshi no Sumika store made its entrance, created by the Doll Advisors, the many customers who couldn’t stop loving Super Dollfie, and also the efforts of founding store manager Sekiguchi. From this, we, and surely our customers also, came to feel that perhaps the gap between doll fans and Super Dollfie was gradually shrinking.
For many of those who came to know of this new world, their next thought seemed to be “I want an angel that’s just mine, that was born just for me”.
For doll fans… nay, for every living human in this world, such yearning surely exists in their hearts; the desire for “something that exists just for me”. Volks, realizing this, started the “Super Dollfie Full Choice System” at the same time that “Tenshi no Sumika” was opened.

At Sumika, where the angels were unified in their beautiful innocence, this was the ultimate doll world – a full choice where you could greet that single special angel, your ideal angel, that you had only seen in your dreams. In addition to that, we released new “One Off Model Super Dollfie” – SD that were totally coordinated from wig and makeup to clothes and shoes – one after the other. There was no doubt that here, there and everywhere we were bringing to fruition the “fated meetings” between Super Dollfie and the owners who fell in love with them.
With the introduction of these new systems, there was a great chance that even those doll fans who had up until now not known about Super Dollfie would become aware of their existence. Almost as if some kind of power was guiding them in……

“Tenshi no Sumika”, “Full Choice”, “One Off Model”… through these dream-like systems, our angels descended from the heavens to places all over. Almost as if the Super Dollfie themselves had made their own existence into something poetic…
That was 2001, where every single second was like a treasure.
What kind of miracles could the next year bring about? Please look forward to the answer to that next time……
