“The Ten Year History of Super Dollfie: 2000”
January 1st, 2000.
The millennium, a time to remember.
The doll world was still dominated by 27cm dolls and artist made dolls. Even for the dealers who participated in Dolpa, perhaps not even a single one of them was actually using Super Dollfie. That was the way things were.
Yes, it was in the midst of that. That was the world that Nono was to shake up.
Nono was an SD that came into existence by chance. But she had no sooner made her appearance than with almost terrifying speed she melted the hearts of doll fans everywhere.
This was surely an incredibly strange sensation, even for Nono. After all, still barely knowing anything of the Super Dollfie world, she had been suddenly thrust out on centre stage.
At the same time, we held the “Dolls Party 3rd - 2000, Spring”.
In addition to the four angels we had previously introduced, our newest Standard, “Nono”, was included. On top of that, we also announced new clothes, shoes, accessories, and furniture at the same time.
Also, at this Dolpa, as a trial, we finally introduced our first Limited Edition, “Megu - White Skin Kimono Version”. She had been biding her time, waiting for the right moment to appear.
This white-skinned angel glided down to bring happiness to the lives of just 30 owners.
In addition, at this Dolpa, we held our very first Dolpa Auction.
In this way, we could clearly show that these angels called SD, although arriving just as they were born, could come to be truly amazing creatures through the help of human hands.
It was also an obvious way in which the extent of Super Dollfies’ potential could be seen as an actuality in the eyes of those that we considered fans.
The veil over the strange and unknown world of Super Dollfie was slowly and surely being flung aside.
“I want to touch the angels.” Surely everyone has felt that way?
At that time, with the thought in mind to use brute force to break through the barriers holding us back, Volks released in rapid succession “Nono – White Skin Shinto Maiden Version” in August and then “Nono – Snow White” in October.
Nono……… for all the doll fans who had been charmed by her, or rather by Super Dollfie, a completely new world was beginning to open up before their eyes, little by little. And they were certainly starting to find themselves drawn into it.
At the “Dolls Party 4th – 2000 Winter” held on December 10th, Super Dollfies finally began to make a more general appearance.
Several individual dealers began to use SD as their main display models. Of course, at this point, you still couldn’t yet say that they were mainstream in the doll world, but…
But despite that, you could at least be certain that the presence that these Super Dollfies have was beginning to reach the hearts of our customers.
As an addition to the Standard series, the adorable Rio made her debut on the stage.
So that we could release a jointed body, that was already becoming the norm, for our Limited SD, “Nono – Coming of Age Version” and “Megu – Taisho Romanticism Version”, our Zoukeimura sculptors began to give full scope to their real abilities.
We’d already come this far, and at last we had begun to attract interest. The eyes of all doll fans were gradually beginning to turn towards the world of Super Dollfie.
In addition, we recreated the character “Ian” from the comic book “Fuguruma-kan Raihouki” (by Kei Toume) as a doll. This 40cm sized smaller Super Dollfie was a pillar of the SD world, and this type would later come to be called MSD.
In that same December, we announced our Zoukeimura glass eyes. We took pride in the fact that they created a mysterious impression of the doll’s gaze following you no matter where you went. Like a rushing stream, the appeal of Super Dollfie was starting to surge towards doll fans everywhere.
In that winter of 2000, there wasn’t anyone who could affect indifference towards the limitless appeal of Super Dollfie, so close to the ideals of so many doll fans.
Surely by then anyone could have had an inkling that a new miracle was soon to occur in the world of Super Dollfie.
2001 was a memorable year, in which the expectations of doll fans helped new angels to be born into the SD world.
Please look forward to the continuation of our history!
* “Accessories and furniture”
by this time, glasses, hats, stands and chairs were already on sale; it was quite possible to get together all the important things one might generally need for their SD.
* "Our first Dolpa Auction"
this was a dream auction SD realized by Nekonote and Mayura. I wonder how many of you know what doll it was?
